On that day Mexican general Santa Anna crushed and exterminated resistance of Texan insurgents in the famous battle of the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. This battle is one of the highlights in US history (remember Davy Crockett ...). Many myths and legends have grown about that battle.

Many years ago I had the pleasure of visiting San Antonio and its historical missions, some of which still are active.
I always wanted to buy a stetson and came very close to do so in a famous San Antonio shop close to the Alamo. But finally I did not : the real thing is very expensive and the only way to bring it back home is on one's head : I found that too ostentatious.

And no, I have not forgotten the Indians. The USA : a history of brutal and sometimes very bloody conquest.
