Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, 40 days before Easter. Over the last 50 years or so, Lent has lost almost all its meaning. The priests of the Roman church will tell you otherwise, but believe you me, they are wrong !
This year, Ash Wednesday and Easter come very late in the year.The latest possible date of Ash Wednesday is March 10 ; so we are one day short of the record. The last time Ash Wednesday was on March 10 was in 1943 ; the next time will be in 2038.
The earliest possible day for Ash Wednesday is February 4.
