To me April 20 has but one, catastrophic meaning : the thirty-first anniversary of the death of my beloved father Petrus Joannes Timmermans (born in Meerbeke on October14 1913 - died in Ghent on April 20 1980).
But other catastrophies events happened on that day :
- the most monstrous creature in world history, Adolf Hitler, was born on that day in 1889
- and last year, BP's Deepwater Horizon oil well exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, killing eleven workers and beginning an oil spill that would last five months. The duration and the severity of the consequences of that spill are anybody's guess.
