Battle of the Bulge

The Battle of the Bulge (also known as the von Rundstedt offensive started on 16 December 1944 and lasted to  25 January 1945) was the last  major German offensive, launched toward the end of World War II through the densely forested Ardennes region in Belgium, and France and Luxembourg in the vain hope of recapturing Antwerp.

It was a murderous, useless and very costly extension of the war that nazis Germany already had lost. But human life held no value whatsoever for that bunch of criminals.

My parents often told me that many people panicked and thought the nazis were coming back. But the Bulge around Bastogne held firm.

As a matter of fact, I haven't seen many reminders of this important event in the Flemism media today. Maybe I did not look hard enough. But maybe the children and grandchildren of those who were on the losing side then and who are almost in power now, don't want to be reminded of these - for them - unfortunate events.

With deep gratitude I commemorate  every allied soldier who did his share to stop this last military attack of the Huns in my country.

Since then, they have come back with changed their strategy and tactics. And they look like winning too ...
