April 27 1838

On that day Maria Elisabeth Van Lierde died in Pamel. an innkeeper on the Brussels road. She had been born on February 28 1790 as a miller's daughter. On september 6 1809 she married Joannes Franciscus De Vidts (Pamel 1784 - 1839), who was an innkeeper on the Brussels road and with whom she had eight children between 1810 and 1831. Their house still stands to this day. It was one of the first houses to be built on the spot where the new village church was built and where a new center developed some 60 - 70 years later.

I descend from two of the children of their son, Joannes De Vidts (Pamel 1811 - 1881) who married Maria Elisabeth Van der Sleyen (Pamel 1811 - 1860). Their daughter Antonia De Vidts (Pamel 1840 - Meerbeke ?) was the grandmother of my father's mother. Their younger son Felix (Pamel 1853 - 1940) was my mother's maternal grandfather.

But back to Maria Elisabeth Van Lierde. She was a daughter of Joannes Josephus Van Lierde (Pamel 1746 - 1811) a scion of a famous millers' "dynasty" and of Maria Josina Covens (Pamel 1759 - 1827) who was born on hof te Berchem, one of the major farms in the village.
